GP Masterclass (Mudgee) - Kahler's disease

This presentation will take General Practitioners through the epidemiology and pathophysiology of multiple myeloma, including the relationship to MGUS and AL amyloidosis. Case presentations will highlight the typical (and less typical) presentations in both the primary care and emergency settings. There will be a brief overview of common treatments and their side effects before finishing with a look to the future of myeloma treatment in Australia.

Learning Outcomes
- Define multiple myeloma and understand the basic pathophysiology of the disease
- Identify the CRAB (hypercalcaemia, renal impairment, anaemia and bony lesions) criteria related to myeloma
- Explain to a patient MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance) and its relationship to myeloma
- Discuss the basic treatments for myeloma
